His shadow looms close so he will do what he can
On the exterior he’s the one who will stand up tall
Yet on the flip side he’s super scared he could fall

He is one to leave it all on the floor when on stage
However inside of his head he’s locked in the cage
From the outside life is great as it’s taken in stride
On the inside it’s been a hellish roller coaster ride

I won’t dare to show you the layers that lie within
People don’t care what’s under my hardened skin
If I said I lived in hell you can take me at my word
My notebook is my shield and my pen is my sword

Despite that eternal hell I’m still able to stand tall
My support system is there so I know I’ll never fall
In that mirror I tend to get scared of my reflection
Yet my very creativity has become my protection

At age 16 I came face to face with my own Death
This is why I go to be so grateful for every breath
Unfortunately I avoided that so I still have my soul
So the Reaper cannot come to collect on that toll

After a quick & narrow escape from my own Death
My creativity became vital like every single breath
In essence my life hit me like an humongous flood
The fluid that writes all these words are MY blood

I didn’t pick these cards but I got to play thru it all
No matter what I was able to learn to stand up tall
It doesn’t matter what obstacle was thrown at me
My friends made me open up my eyes & truly see
